About me

I was born and raised in the Los Angeles area. I went to Reseda High School in Reseda, CA. I graduated in 1966 from Washington State University. I did my Medical Technology training at USC-Los Angeles Medical Center in Los Angeles in 1967. I lived in various places (Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, WA, Stillwater, OK) before moving to Moscow in 1972. I worked half time at the Gritman Medical Center Laboratory for 32 years when I retired in September 2008. I help out at the lab still on a PRN basis.

I belong to the Palouse LaTreks, a women's hiking group that was started in 1989. We hike, ski or snowshoe every Wednesday in the year. I bike (in good weather) with an offshoot group of the LaTreks called The Monday Pedal Pushers. I am on the board for a new organization called My Own Home. It is an organization designed to help seniors stay in their own home for as long as they want. It is based on the organization in Boston, MA (see www.beaconhillvillage.org).

I spend a lot of time with my husband who is just the best! We enjoy all the local happenings here in Moscow that we love, have coffee dates at Cafe Silos, ride our bikes and take road trips when we can (Jack has not retired yet!).

Biking on the Latah Trail

We have been biking these past 2 weeks on the Latah Trail. I've gone with Jack twice and with my biking group this morning. We stop at the Filling Station in Troy for good lattes! We are very lucky to have this trail so close to home! The last 5 miles from Moscow to Troy are the best.

Looking for the big trees

Today is our hiking day and the short day group (8 of us) went to Moscow Mountain. We drove to Friendly Fir and hiked to the cabin. It started to sprinkle and by the end of the day we got pretty wet. After we got to the cabin we decided to look for the old growth cedar trees on the Warnick land. Well, we never found them but after a few false starts up very steep banks we did find the turnoff. As a reminder, we tied some strips (from my silver space blanket that I was wearing as a rain poncho) on some trees. You need to go almost to the creek and then turn up to the left. Right before the very overgrown road turns to the right. Maybe I can remember for the next time! We had a good time looking for the trail even with getting very wet!

Biking the Trail of the Couer d'Alenes

Yesterday we biked from Lake Chatcolet to Harrison on the Trail of the Couer d'Alenes. We went a little beyond to the eagle nest but no eagles there. We biked about 22 miles. A very nice day except for our drive home where we hit a deer. Thankfully, we were okay and the car was driveable. But, now we have to deal with repairs and insurance!

The Sender's Dance at the 1912

Last night we went to the Sender's Dance at the 1912 Center. We stayed until the end at midnight which is pretty unusual for us. It was great! They don't play together now but came together for this Heart of the Arts fundraiser.

Still experimenting and learning

I have read the comments and now want to write something new to see if Jack gets a notification of this new blog either by email or by a notification on his favorites (which is what it said it would do but we don't quite understand that) since he is now subscribed to my blog.

First day

This is a test for me to learn how to set up a blog for "My Own Home".
